There is a lot of misinformation floating across social media networking apps regarding the COVID-19 and some of them are using religious beliefs to justify defiance of health advisories over the virus. Concerned about such content, the Indian IT ministry has written to these companies asking them to remove users who are spreading misinformation and “preserve” their details for sharing with law enforcement when requested.

Our assessment is that public health must employ social strategies for improved communication management. When the next pandemic strikes, which it will, accurate information will be just as important as effective treatments.
